Basic Function

Coordinates and implements Land functions necessary for the exploration and development of oil and gas properties, and acquisition and divestment of assets.

Principle Accountabilities

  1. With supervision, preparing standard Land related agreements such as Joint Operating Agreements, Joint Venture Agreements, Farmout Agreements, Letters of Intent and Purchase and Sale Agreements, etc.
  2. Effective public relations and positive company image by reviewing and responding timely to inquiries from all parties with respect to the status of a lease, company activity or issues encountered as well as other routine correspondence.
  3. Coordinating job assignments with brokers as well as reviewing maps, courthouse records, leases and contracts to ensure that title for exploration/development projects and producing property acquisitions is accurate and complete.
  4. Interacts with other departments to effectively communicate information relating to Land contracts, leases, and proposals.
  5. Performing special projects that are critical to the company’s efforts.
  6. Providing Land support during the investigation and settlement of damage claims resulting from exploration, drilling, and other development activity.
  7. Adhering to governmental regulations by learning and complying with the relevant legal requirements and state and federal regulations pertaining to drilling operations, pooling, unitization, and production activities.
  8. Strategically managing company assets be evaluating and monitoring the properties and offering recommendations to management.

Nature and Scope

The Land Department aggressively pursues and generates onshore acquisition, exploration and development opportunities in conjunction with all other department disciplines.  This Department is challenged to various degrees with securing the rights and interest of all Peregrine entities in oil and gas properties.  All negotiation, interpretation, and preparation of legal agreements required in oil and gas operations fall under the responsibility of the Land Department.

The Landman is the 2nd level Landman position.  The incumbent should be familiar with Land techniques acquired from previous assignments and positions.  This person is experienced in initial leasing activities and with operational Land functions.

This person generally performs Land activities specific to a geographical area or project team.  The Landman is responsible for reviewing and responding to inquiries on such matters as joint ventures, claims, and disputes, acreage acquisition and other Company activities.  The incumbent evaluates and processes submittals, AFE’s and damage settlements.  Subject to review, the Landman will negotiate, structure and prepare joint operating agreements, joint venture/exploration agreements, farmout agreements, letters of intent and purchase and sale agreements.

The Landman is to coordinate with contract Landmen that handle the landowner negotiations, title examination, title opinions, abstracts and review of public records.  This person will monitor daily activities, analyze acreage reports, report project status, and review lease negotiations assuring completeness, accuracy, and legality of language and terms.

The Landman communicates with Geoscience, Engineering, Marketing and Accounting on ongoing activities so that all disciplines are aware of and can advise on such issues as acceptable terms of agreements, potential problems, limitations with joint ventures and lessor proposal terms.

Peregrine contracts independent Land brokers to handle certain leasing activities.  It is the Associate Landman’s responsibility to coordinate landowner negotiations, title examination, title opinions, abstracts of title and review other public record information with the contracted personnel.  The incumbent evaluates the maps, plats and courthouse records and reports findings to the senior Land Department personnel.

This position monitors and reviews the existing property asset base along with Lease Administration.  The Landman offers recommendations to management that would enhance the Company’s position.

The primary challenge in this job is to complete Land procedures accurately and timely in order to facilitate the Company’s Activity Schedule.
